Extra Information:
On his 26th mission flying with 460 Sqn, they took off at 2045hrs from
R.A.F. Binbrook, Yorkshire, in a Lancaster Mk.I, No. PB807 AR-H on a
bombing operation over Weisbaden. They crashed at Riedelbach, some 17 km
NW of Bad Homburg-vor-der-Höhe. Out of the crew of 7 only one survived to
be taken prisoner.

Missing since February 1942. Death confirmed November 1945.

Flight Sgt. R.H. Whiticar, the only survivor of the crash wrote, "A few
minutes after leaving the target - Weisbaden, a Junkers 88 night fighter
appeared below us and I warned Mac (the pilot). It dropped back and then
pulled up sharply, I yelled 'corkscrew' to Mac, which he did and the JU88
missed us with the first burst. After the 'corkscrew' the enemy plane was
right up our tail, Mac 'corkscrewed' again, but we caught the next burst
and our aircraft caught fire. As we commenced to dive Larry's (Sgt.
Potter's) guns opened up and sent the 'jerry' down. The aircraft went into
a vertical dive, but I managed to bail out, crashing into some trees. The
aircraft crashed a quarter of a mile away and I was told that I was the
only survivor, though I had been shot in the foot".

M.I. - "Memories of you are always dear. May your skies be always clear".
