Born during the June quarter 1920 in the Barton on Irwell R.D. - ref:
8c/1290, the daughter of Thomas R. & Mabel Hayes (nee Rae).

1939 National Registration - 34 Stanley Road, Stretford.   Mabel Hayes -
Widowed - Born: 8th May 1895 - occ: Unpaid Domestic Duties.  There are two
redacted records at this address - presumably her children - Margaret M.
Hayes (b.1920) and Kenneth Hayes (b.1926).   Both Margaret & Kenneth were
killed in this incident.

CWD Report No.93.    Died as a result of falling debris at 34 Stanley Road,
Old Trafford, where her body was recovered at 17.30 hrs on the 24th
December 1940 and taken to the Church Street Mortuary, Stretford.  The body
was initially treated as 'Unidentified', but it was later decided that it
was Mary Hayes after being identified by a family friend - the Revd. H.
Riley, Clergy House, Belmaine Road, Gorton.     Her remains were released
for burial to the Council's contracted undertaker - R. Pepperdine, 31 Ayres
Road, Old Trafford.

Killed when a land mine landed on Stanley Road, Old Trafford.   This was
the worst single incident in terms of loss of life in the whole of Greater
Manchester during WW2.   In total, thirty three persons were killed.

Buried 27/12/1940 - as a "Woman - probably Margaret Mary Hayes" - Burial
No. 17,856.

Her father died in 1928, aged: 37.

Her mother - Mabel Hayes and her brother - Kenneth Hayes, were also both
killed in this incident.

CWGC - Daughter of Mabel and of the late T. Hayes. Died at 34 Stanley Road,
Old Trafford.
