Mary Chippendale (nee Speake).

Road, Old Trafford.

Twice awarded Police Merit Badge for Gallantry in Saving Life.

William A. Chippendale - Married - born: 21st February 1891 - occ: Chief
Inspector of Police.   Florence M. Chippendale - Married - born: 26th May
1891 - occ: Housewife.  There is another record that has been blanked out
under the 100 year rule - (1 of their 3 children???).

One of six Police Officers killed when a Land Mine fell onto the East Union
Street Police Station, Old Trafford  on the first night of the Manchester
Christmas Blitz.   Four were killed instantly - two died a few days later.

CWD Report No.56.    Died at the East Union Street Police Station as a
result of blast, his body was recovered at 02.40 hrs on the 23rd December
1940 and taken to the City Road Mortuary where it was identified by F.
Waddington, described as "a friend", to whom the body was released for
burial.    He was described as being 6 feet in height, sandy hair with an
oval shaped face.

Death registered in Stretford Borough.    Commemorated on the Stretford
Constabulary Memorial.
