H.M.S. Hereward was sunk at 0625hrs on the 29/05/41, 15 miles south of
Crete, by German air attack.  R.N. cruisers Orion & Dido and the destroyer
"Decoy" were also severely damaged during this operation to evacuate
Commonwealth troops from Heraklion.    It was an 'H' class destroyer, of
which 9 were built between 1936 & 1937, they had a displacement of 1,505
tons and a complement of 145 personnel.
