Born during the March quarter 1924 in the Chorlton R.D. - ref: 8c/1344, the son of Harold Campbell & Marjorie Renshaw (nee Broom). H.M.S. Niger was mined at 21.05hrs on the 05/07/42 off the coast of Iceland, in position 66.35N 23.14W. Four allied merchant vessels were also lost in this incident. It was a 'Halcyon' class minesweeper, of which 21 were built between 1933 & 1939, they had a displacement of 835 tons and a complement of 80 personnel. |
