Born durng the June quarter 1918 in the Manchester R.D. - ref: 8d/263, the
son of Frederick & Sarah Emma Eaves (nee Evans).

H.M.S. Bramble was escorting Convoy JW.51B in the Barents Sea.    Whilst
detached from the convoy, to round up convoy stragglers, she made a signal
at 10.39 hrs on the 31st December 1942, reporting one enemy cruiser in
sight - nothing more was heard of her after that. 

It is now known that H.M.S. Bramble was sunk at 10.45hrs on the 31st
December 1942, 15 miles to the north-east of the Convoy, in position 73.15N
- 30.06E, by the 11 inch gunfire from the pocket battleship Lützow - there
were no survivors.

H.M.S. Bramble was a 'Halcyon' class minesweeper, of which 21 were built
between 1933 & 1939, they had a displacement of 815 tons and a complement
of 73 personnel.
