Trafford

Born during the December quarter 1876 in the Bolton R.D. - ref: 8c/312, the
son of Bold and Isabel Aldred (nee McCann).

1881 Census - Old Clough Farm, Old Clough Lane, Worsley.   Son - aged: 4 -
born: Little Hulton, Lancashire.   Head of household - Bold Aldred -
Married - aged: 42 - occ: Public Accountant - born: Little Hulton,
Lancashire.    Also - Isabel  Aldred - Wife - aged: 32 - born: Bolton,
Lancashire.    Plus 8 siblings and 1 servant.

1891 Census - Stamford Street, Altrincham - Son - aged: 14 - Scholar -
born: Little Hulton, Lancashire.    Head of household - Bold Aldred -
Married - aged: 52 - occ: Insurance Agent, Little Hulton, Lancashire.   
Also - Isabel  Aldred - Wife - aged: 42 - born: Bolton, Lancashire.    Plus
9 siblings and his maternal grandmother.

He was educated at the Grammar School, Manchester, where he was in the
classical fifth, and among the first eleven reserves for cricket when he
left in 1893.

He was 6 feet tall and exelled at cricket, hockey and tennis.  He was for a
time, the House Surgeon at Barrow.

He volunteered for active service at the beginning of the war, and sailed
for South Africa on the 7th November 1899, arriving at Cape Town on the
16th April 1900.  He went straight up the line to Kroonstad serving in the
hospital that had been created there within the Dutch Church at Kroonstad. 
  During the ABW, Kroonstad became the capital of the Orange Free State.

1901 Census - His parents, 4 siblings and 1 servant are now residing at
Northwood, Kelsall, Tarvin, Cheshire.   He is now serving with the Imperial
Hospital Corps at Kroonstad, the capital of the Orange Free State, South
Africa.

Died of Enteric Fever in the 3rd General Hospital, Kroonstad.  
Commemorated on the Kroonstad Cemetery Memorial and a stone cross grave
marker.

His death was reported in the 16/01/1901 edition of the Altrincham
Guardian.

1911 Census - His parents have by now retired to South Parade, Blackpool.
