Born during the June quarter 1887 in the Ripon R.D. - ref: 9a/72, the son
of William & Margaret Gott (nee McGirl).

William John Thompson -  Widower - aged: 61 - occ: Gentleman (Private
Means) - born:Yorkshire.  One of W.J. Thompson's daughters was a Poultry
Farmer - presumably William worked for her, but probably had many other
duties about the ten roomed house.

Later moved to Mobberley, where he was employed by Mr. Thomas Ravenscroft,
Wood End Farm, Mobberley, Cheshire.      Also worked for Mr. Septimus
Richardson, Mere House Farm, Mobberley.

Married Elsie Harrison at St. Peter's P.C. Hale on the 9th January 1915,
the marriage being registered during the March quarter 1915 - ref: 8a/281. 
They produced two children - William (b. 23/10/1915) and Elsie Rene (b.
19/12/1916).  Elsie Rene died at 1 John Street, Altrincham from Debility
and Heart Failure on the 1st January 1917.

WO 363 - Attested at Chester on the 17th December 1915 and went onto the
Army Reserve list.   He was mobilized on the 6th June 1916.  He was aged:
28 years 9 months, employed as a Teamsman on a farm and was residing at
Bollin House, Wood Lane, Mobberley.   William was 5 feet 3 3/4 inches in
height, weighed 123 lb and had chest measurements of 33 inches to 35 1/2
inches

He was posted to Basra in modern day Iraq and embarked at Devonport on the
11th October 1916, arriving at Basra on the 17th.

In 1920, his medals were sent to his widow - Elsie Gott at 1 John Street,
Altrincham.  On the 10th September 1917 Elsie was awarded a pension of
18/9d a week for herself and one child.

Death reported in the 16/03/1917 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.

William is listed twice on the Altrincham Roll of Honour, under both
Altrincham and Mobberley.  This is a duplication probably caused by his
widow submitting his name at St. John's P.C. Altrincham when his name was
also submitted from Mobberley.
