Born during the June quarter 1881 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/191, the
son of Joseph & Elizabeth Brown (nee Ridgway).

1891 Census - New Mills, Oak Lane, Mobberley.    Son - aged: 9 - Scholar -
born: Plumbly, Cheshire.   Head of household - Joseph Brown - Married -
aged: 36 - occ: Farm Labourer - born: Mobberley.   Also - Lizzy Brown -
Wife - aged: 30 - born: Mobberley.  Plus 4 siblings and his maternal
grandmother.

1901 Census -  Pepper Street, Mobberley.   Boarder  - aged: 19 - occ:
Nurseryman's Labourer - born: Plumbley, Cheshire.   His parents were
residing at New Mills, Mobberley.

1911 Census - New Mills, Mobberley.   Boarder - aged: 30 - occ: Farm
Labourer - born: Mobberley.  His parents and family were residing at 94
Moss Lane, Hale. 

WO 363 - Enlisted at Altrincham on the 1st September 1914.   He was aged:
33 years, 3 days, resided at New Mill, Mobberley and employed as a
Labourer.   He was 5 feet 7 5/8 inches in height and weighed 143 lb.  His
chest measurements were 34 to 36 inches.  He had a Fresh complexion, Blue
eyes and Brown hair.

Posted to France and embarked at Folkestone on the 19th July 1915. 
Admitted to the No.2 Canadian General Hospital at Treport on the 17th
November 1915, suffering from Haemorrhoids.    He was evacuated back to
England from Treport, aboard the Hospital Ship "H.S. Newhaven" on the 24th
November.  He was charged with "Overstaying his Pass" from 9.30 pm on the
23rd until 9.20 pm on the 28th December 1915, for which he forfeited 6 days
pay.

He was convicted of desertion by the District Court-Martial held at Prees
Heath on the 28th January 1916 and sentenced to 42 days in H.M's Prison,
Stafford.

Returned to France on the 4th March 1916 and into the 9th Bn, Cheshire Rgt.
  Joined the Bn in the field on the 13th March 1916.   

He had 2 brothers serving in the Army.

Death reported in the 05/09/1916 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.

Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1917.

In 1917 his mother was residing at 94 Moss Lane, Hale.
