Trafford

Born during the March quarter 1885 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/165,
the son of Peter & Elizabeth Hannah Pennington  (nee Appleby).

1891 Census - No Trace of the family.

1901 Census - Macclesfield Road, Holmes Chapel, Congleton, Cheshire.   
Boarder - aged: 16 - occ: Gardener (Domestic) - born: Mobberley.   Residing
in the home of George & Annie Blease and family.  George Blease was aged:
43 and was also a Gardener (Domestic).  No trace of his parents and
siblings.

1911 Census - 3 Hall Bank, Mobberley.   Son - aged: 26 - occ: Gardener
Domestic - born: Mobberley.    Head of household - Peter Pennington -
Married - aged: 63 - occ: Road Labourer - born: Mobberley.  Also -
Elizabeth Hannah Pennington - Wife - aged: 62 - born: Manchester.   Plus 3
siblings and 1 nephew.

Employed by Mrs. Crossland, Mobberley and later at the Linotype Works,
Broadheath.

Twice rejected for Army service, he eventually enlisted on the 16th April
1918 and was drafted to the front on the 16th April 1918.

WO 363 - Enlisted into the 3rd Bn, Cheshire Rgt at Chester on the 16th
March 1918.   He was aged: 32 years 6 months and resided at 3 Hall Bank,
Mobberley.   He was 5 feet 8 inches in height, weighed 126 lb and his chest
measurements were 33 inches expanded to 35 1/2 inches.   His hair was
Brown, his eyes Light Blue and he had a Fresh complexion.   He had Carious
teeth and an Inguinal Hernia. (perhaps the reason for his previous
rejection?).  The following personal item where sent to his mother - a
disc, letters, photos, religious book, purse, cigarette case, knife, razor
and case, wallet and a match box cover.

Posted to France on the 16th August 1918.   Died in No. 13 Field Ambulance,
France

CWGC - Son of Peter & Elizabeth Hannah Pennington or 3 Hall Bank,
Mobberley.

Commemorated on the private family gravestone in S.S. Wilfred & Mary Church
Yard, Mobberley.

His father - Peter died on the 20th November 1924, aged: 75 years and his
Mother died on the 17th December 1934, aged: 85 years.
