Born during the December quarter 1895 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/184, the eldest son of Isaac & Martha Watkinson (nee Hewitt). 1901 Census - 22 Thomas Street, Altrincham. Son - aged: 5 - born: Timperley. Head of household - Isaac Watkinson - Married - aged: 33 - occ: Bricklayer's Labourer - born: Altrincham. Also - Martha Watkinson - Wife - aged: 32 - born: Didsbury, Manchester. Plus 4 siblings, a cousin and 1 boarder. 1911 Census - 6 Heyes Terrace, Timperley. Son - aged: 15 - occ: Under Gardener (Domestic) - born: Timperley. Head of household - Isaac Watkinson - Married - aged: 46 - occ: General Labourer - born: Altrincham. Also - Martha Watkinson - Wife - aged: 45 - born: Withington, Manchester. Plus 7 siblings and a brother-in-law. Posted to France in 1916 in time for the Battle of the Somme 1916 After a severe operation in the 1st Southern General Hospital, Edgbaston, Birmingham, on the eleven wounds he had received on the 1st July, he subsequently died there following an operation to have his leg amputated. Death reported in the 21/07/1916 edition of the Altrincham Guardian. Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1917. Unusually, the Lodge Hill Cemetery Military burials have no headstone other than a small numbered stone let into and flush with the grassed area. |
