Born during the September quarter 1880 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref:
8a/187, the son of Michael & Mary Glarvey (nee Lavey).  His name is
registered as William GLAVEY (no 'r').    His parents were also married in
the name of GLAVEY in 1866 in the Altrincham R.D.   So, it seems that for
whatever reason, they favoured having the name GLARVEY, 1866 being the last
record under the name of GLAVEY.

months - born: Timperley.   Head of household - Michael GLARVEY - Married -
aged: 43 - occ: Railway Platelayer - born: Ireland.   Also - Mary GLARVEY -
Wife - aged: 39 - occ::Laundress - born: Ireland.   Plus 8 elder siblings.

1891 Census - Orchard Place, Stockport Road, Timperley.   Son - aged: 9 -
Scholar - born: Timperley.   Head of household - Michael GLARVEY - Married

- Wife - aged: 50 - born: Ireland.   Plus 5 elder siblings.

His father - Michael Glarvey died in 1893 - aged: 52.  Registered in the
name of Glavey

1901 Census - 13 Russell Street, Altrincham.   Son - aged: 21 - occ: Cab
Driver - born: Timperley.   Head of household - Mary GLARVEY - Widow -
aged:62 - occ: Day Worker (Domestic) - born: Ireland.  Plus 2 boarders.

1911 Census - No Trace probably in Canada by then???   His widowed mother,
now aged: 72 from Moate, Co. Westmeath, Ireland, was residing with her
married daughter and son in law at 18 Rostherne Street, Altincham.  Mary
died at the end of 1911, aged: 73.

Residing at 94ont Street, East, Toronto, Ontario at the time of his
enlistment.

His Canadian attestation form, signed on the 1st February 1916, at Toronto,
Ontario, states that he was aged 34 years 4 months, 5 feet 6 inches in
height, had a 33½ inch chest (fully expanded).   His complexion was: fair,
his eyes: blue and his hair: light brown.  The papers also state that he
was a Labourer by trade and that he had not previously served in a military
force. All his Canadian records list him as GLARVEY, as does the CWGC.

Religion - Roman Catholic. He was unmarried and his sister - Mary Helen
Mason, 87 Chester Road, Northwich, Cheshire, was listed as his next of
kin.
