Born on the 22nd March 1898, the birth being registered during the March
quarter 1898 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/191, the son of Joseph &
Elizabeth Houlden (nee Baker).

1901 Census - Hall Bank, Mobberley.   Son - aged: 3 - born: Tabley,
Cheshire.   Head of household -  Joseph Houlden - Married - aged: 29 - occ:
Labourer on Main Roads - born: Tabley.   Also Elizabeth Houlden - Wife -
aged: 28 - born: Leftwich, Cheshire.   Plus 1 younger brother.

1911 Census -  Hall Bank, Mobberley.   Son - aged: 13 - Scholar - born:
Tabley, Cheshire.   Head of household -  Joseph Houlden - Married - aged:
39 - occ: Road Labourer - born: Tabley.   Also Elizabeth Houlden - Wife -
aged: 38 - born: Leftwich Green, Cheshire.   Plus 4 younger siblings.

WO 363 - He attested on the 2nd June 1916 and mobilzed at Chester on the
24th October 1916.   He was employed as a Gardener, aged: 18 years 1 month
and resided at Hall Bank, Mobberley.  He was 5 feet 3 1/4 inches in height
and weighed 104 lb.  His chest measurements were 30 inches up to 33 inches
expanded and his physical development described as "Fair".     Drafted to
France on the 20th June 1917.

Admitted into No.51 C.C.S. (Casualty Clearing Station) on the 10th
September 1917 suffering from P.U.O. (Pyrexia of Unknown Origin).  
Admitted into the No. 8 Stationery Hospital, Wimereux on the 22nd September
1917 suffering from mild Influenza.   Hospitalised three more times, but
unable to read the records.   On the 13th December 1917, he was charged
with losing his identity disc and given 2 days, C.B. (Confined to Barracks)
punishment.

Commemorated on the private family gravestone in S.S. Wilfred & Mary Church
Yard, Mobberley.

His father Joseph died 21/05/1945 aged 73 years and his mother Elizabeth,
died 07/03/1955 aged 82 years.
