Born during the June quarter 1887 in the Barton upon Irwell R.D. - ref:
8c/679, the son of Thomas & Maria Hampson (nee Johnson).

1901 Census - 18 Hayes Road, Cadishead.   Son - aged: 13 - occ:
Agricultural Labourer - born: Cadishead.    Head of household - Thomas
Hampson - Married - aged: 48 - occ: Fustian Cutter - born: Cadishead.   
Also - Maria Hampson - Wife - aged: 50 - born: Sutton, Lancashire.   Plus 4
siblings.

He married Henrietta (Hetty) Moreton during the December quarter 1908 in
the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/337.

1911 Census - Church Green, Warburton, Cheshire.    Son-in-Law - Married -
aged: 23 - occ: Warehouseman Ship Canal Dock - born: Cadishead.  Also -
Hetty Hampson - Wife - aged: 21 - born: Warburton.    Plus their 2 sons,
aged: 2 and 9 months.    Head of household was Hetty's father - Henry
Moreton - Widower - aged: 48 - occ: Roadman - born: Warburton.

Henrietta (Hetty) died during the September quarter 1915 in the Bucklow
R.D. - ref: 8a/215.

verbatim the following extract from their superb 623 page book "A District
at War - Irlam & Cadishead's Part in the Great War", an incredibly detailed
and comprehensive book that is not only a credit to them, but a magnificent
memorial to the WW1 men of that district.

Served with the 10th (Service) Battalion, The Cheshire Regiment, 7th
Infantry Brigade, 25th Division.

Born in Cadishead (c. 1888), Thomas was the son of Thomas and Maria Hampson
of 18 Hayes Road, Cadishead.   He had three brothers and a sister: Isaac
(born c. 1871), William (c. 1876), John (c. 1891) and Alice (c. 1894).  
His father and brothers were employed as fustian cutters and Thomas was a
farm worker.   He had married Hetty who had predeceased him.  Thomas
enlisted into the Cheshire's at Altrincham and arrived in France on 8th
July 1915, where he was posted to the 10th Battalion.

He died of wounds sustained fighting in the northern part of the Somme, on
Tuesday, 5th September 1916, aged 29.   Medal Entitlement: 15 Star Trio.
