Enlisted into the Royal Marine Light Infantry.

HMS Bulwark was lying at her No. 17 mooring in Kethole Reach to the west of
the island of Sheerness.   At 07.45 hrs on the stern of the ship, the Royal
Marine Band was playing and having had their breakfast some of her crew
were preparing for work on the upper deck.   A few minutes later, she
suffered an internal explosion - believed to have been a magazine explosion
and she quickly sank beneath the cold waters of the River Medway.   She had
a compliment of 750 officers and men.  No officers survived and only 14
ratings survived.   The remains of the wreck is now a war grave and is
marked by  two buoys - the East Bulwark and the West Bulwark in the estuary
of the River Medway.

Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1916, which states
that he lived at 7 Greenwood St, Altrincham.

Not commemorated on the Chapel Street Memorial.
