the eldest son of Percy Barras Smith (nee Sampson).

1901 Census - School Lane, Brewood, Cannock, Staffordshire.   Son - aged: 6

occ: No Occupation - born: Brewood, Staffordshire.   Plus 3 younger
siblings and a visitor.    No trace of his father.

1911 Census - Warham Street, Wilmslow, Cheshire.   Son - aged: 16 - occ: No
occupation - born: Chester.   Head of household - Percy Smith - Married -
aged: 39 - occ: Cab Driver - born: Canterbury, Kent.   Also Kate Smith -
Wife - aged: 37  - born: Brewood, Staffordshire.   Plus 7 younger
siblings.

Enlisted in the Army straight from school - signed on for 7 years and
served for 5 years.

Employed at Linotype for 2 years and mobilised into the Army again on
04/08/1914.

Married Edith Jackson at St. John's P.C. on the 30th October 1915, the
marriage being registered during the December quarter 1915 in the Bucklow
R.D. - ref: 8a/388.  They had a son - also Percy Benjamin Smith, born
during the December quarter 1916 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/253.

Death reported in the 24/09/1918 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.   Left
a widow and one child - also a Percy Benjamin Smith born during the
