H.M.S. Diamond along with H.M.S. Wryneck had, between them, just a few
hours earlier, rescued 700 troops from the Dutch Liner Slamat when they
were both sunk by German air attack at 13.15hrs on the 27/04/41 south of
Nauplia, in position 36.30N 11.10E.    Only 50 survivors were found from
all three ships - none from H.M.S. Diamond.    It was a 'D' Class Destroyer
(of which 9 were built between 1930 & 1931).  They had a displacement of
1,375 tons and a complement of 145 personnel.
