Born during the March quarter 1888 in the Chorlton R.D. - ref: 8c/697, the
son of James & Margaret Thorpe (nee Jackson).   Baptised on the 8th April
1888 in St. Paul's P.C., Withington.      Son of James & Margaret Thorpe.  
Father's occupation - Traveller.

1891 Census - 22 Burton Road, Withington, Manchester - Son - aged: 3 -
born: Withington.   Head of household - Margaret Thorpe - Married - aged:
33 - occ: Charwoman - born: Withington.   Plus 1 lodger.  No Trace of his
father.

1901 Census - 14 Hill Street, Withington, Manchester.   Son - aged: 13 -
born: Withington.   Head of household - Margaret Thorpe - Married - aged:
43 - occ: Laundress - born: Withington.

1911 Census - 8 Bradshaw Avenue, Withington, Manchester.    Son - aged: 23
- occ: Commercial Clerk - born: Withington.   Head of household - Margaret
Thorpe - Widow - aged: 53 - No occupation - born: Withington.   The record
shows that Margaret had produced three children but two of them had died by
1911.

Grandson of the late John Jackson, Green Lane, Timperley.     His Aunt
Annie, lived at Arcot, Bowdon.

Commemorated on the private family (grand-mother's) gravestone in Hale
Cemetery.  M.I. - "The supreme sacrifice".

M.I. in France "Supreme sacrifice, his life".   Buried with Sergeant A.J.F.
Pirouet - Royal Irish Rifles.

Death reported in the 22/09/1916 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.

CWGC - Son of James & Margaret Thorpe of 18 Cooper Street, Withington,
Manchester.

Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1917, which states
that he lived at "Arcot", Bowdon.

od wounds on the 9th September 1916.   Dependant: Mrs. Margaret Thorpe, 61
Rippingham Road, Withington, Manchester.  Awarded a weekly pension of 12/6d
w.e.f. the 17th July 1917.   Having lost all of her family, his mother died
in 1924, aged: 69.
