Enlisted at Altrincham.    Formerly RX/4235093 - Royal Army Service Corps.

The 15th Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment landed at Boulogne on the
21st November 1915 and went into the 14th Brigade, 5th Division on the
28th.   Transferring to the 13th Brigade, 5th Division on the 14th January
1916.    The Battalion was drafted to Italy in December 1917, returning to
France in April 1918.  It is not known when he enlisted or was drafted to
France, so it cannot be ascertained what his involvement was in this
Battalion's service record.

The Battle of the Canal du Nord took place between the 27th September and
the 1st October 1918 - one of the engagements to penetrate the "Hindenburg
Line" east of Cambrai.   14 Divisions, including 16 tanks attacked at 05:20
hrs on the morning of the 27th September 1918, attacked under total
darkness, taking the German defenders by surprise.   By mid morning, all
the defenders had retreated or been captured.  Because of Canal du Nord's
capture, the final road to Cambrai was open.  John died on the first day of
this engagement.

In 1923, his widow - Jessie married George R. Stone at Warrington.
