Born at Altrincham on the  30th April 1897, the birth being registered
during the December quarter 1898 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/180, the
son of William & Mary Jane Aldcroft (nee Speakman).

1901 Census - 12 King Street, Altrincham.   Son - aged: 2 - born:
Altrincham.   Head of household - William Aldcroft - Married - aged: 33 -
occ: Plasterer's Labourer - born: Altrincham.    Also - Mary J. Aldcroft -
Wife - aged: 32 - born: Altrincham.   Plus 4 siblings, all born at
Altrincham.

His father - William Aldcroft died in 1905, aged: 37.

Aged, 10, he emigrated to Canada in 1909 together with an Adult - George
Aldcroft (Uncle???).  They travelled on the S.S. Tunisian, that left
Liverpool on the 6th May 1909, bound for Quebec.

1911 Census - No Trace - now in Canada.   His widowed mother - Mary Jane
Aldcroft was Lodging with her eldest daughter - Martha Hulme and her
husband at 18 Denmark Street, Altrincham together with young son and a
young daughter.  She was aged: 40 and employed as a Charwoman.

His Canadian attestation form, signed on the 22nd November 1915, at
Bowmanville, Ontario, states that he was aged 18 years 11 months, 5 feet 4
inches in height, had a 33½/2 inch chest (fully expanded).   His
complexion was: mid-dark, his eyes: blue and his hair: brown.    The papers
also state that he was a Rubber Worker by trade and that he had never
previously served in any military force.

Religion - Methodist.   He was unmarried and his mother - Mrs. Mary Jane
Aldcroft, Regent Road, Altrincham, Cheshire, was listed as his next of
kin.
