Born during the March quarter 1895 in the Ashton under Lyne R.D. - ref:
8d/520, the son of Thomas & Mary Green (nee Murphy).

1901 Census - 2 Hibbert's Yard, Ashton under Lyne.   Son - aged: 6 - born:
Ashton under Lyne.   Head of household - Thomas Green - Married  - aged: 44

2 siblings.

1911 Census - 51 Chapel Street (Lodging House).    Boarder - aged: 19 (16
actually) - Smallwares Hawker - born: Ashton under Lyne, Lancashire.   Head
of household - Thomas Green - Married - aged: 52 - occ: Smallwares Hawker -
born: Stalybridge, Cheshire.   Also Mary Green - Wife - aged: 49 - born:
Ashton under Lyne.   Plus 2 siblings.  Thomas & Mary had been married for
31 years and produced 8 children of whom 4 were still alive.

Married Rachel Bradley during the September quarter 1913 in St. John's
P.C., Godley, Hyde.  The marriage being registered in the Ashton upon Lyne
R.D. - ref: 8d/1071.  Rachel was born in 1886 and employed as a Back Tenter
in a Mill Cardroom.  She resided with her parents at 10 Castle Street,
Hyde, Cheshire.

Enlisted in the 9th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment and, after training, was
posted to France in July 1915.  The 9th (Service) Bn was part of 58th
Brigade, 19th (Western) Division.   Moved forward from Bresle during the
night of 30/06 and assembled on the railway embankment near Albert.   Took
up position in the Tar-Usna Line at 10.00 am on 01/07.  Later moved forward
to Bécourt Wood and from there relieved the 34th Division holding the
German line around Lochnagar Crater.  In action around La Boisselle 02/07
to 04/07.   Relieved and went back to the Tara-Usna Line.    Casualties
between 01/07 and 04/07 were - 307.

CWGC - Son of Thomas & Mary Green.  Husband of Rachel Gee (formerly Green),
of 21 Cheapside, Hyde, Cheshire.

His widow Rachel Green married Joel Gee in 1920.
