Born on the 2nd February 1894, the birth being registered during the Septermber quarter 1894 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/185, the eldest son of John & Kate Warburton (nee Webb). 1901 Census - Dunham Massey. Son - aged: 7 - born: Cheshire. Head of household - John Warburton - Married - aged: 33 - occ: Market Gardener - born: Cheshire. Also - Kate Warburton - Wife - aged: 31 - born: Altrincham. Plus 4 younger siblings. His father - John Warburton died in 1905, aged: 39. 1911 Census - Gordon School, West End, Chobham, Woking, Surrey. School & Part Time Cook - aged: 16 - born: Altrincham. His widowed mother and 5 siblings were then residing at Seamon's Road, Dunham Massey. ADM159 - Enlisted at Southampton on the 18th October 1911. Aged: 17 years 8 months. He was 5 feet 4 1/2 inches in height, had a 'Fresh' complexion, blue eyes and Brown hair. He was able to swim and was tested at Deal on the 27th Feburuary 1912. Stationed at the Recruit Depot, Deal 18th October to 3rd August 1912. Chatham Division 4th August 1912 to 8th January 1913. HMS Lord Nelson 9th January 1913 to 8th April 1914. Chatham Division 9th April 1914 to 12th June 1914. HMS President (Shore Base) 13th June 1914 to 29th June 1914. Chatham Division 30th June 1914 to 13th July 1914. HMS Formidable 14th July 1914 on which he served in the Royal Marine Light Infantry until he was killed when HMS Formidable was sunk by U-Boat U24 in the English Channel on the 1st January 1915.. Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1916. |
