Born at Mears Ashby, a village to the west of Wellingborough,
Northamptonshire during the June quarter 1894 - Wellingborough R.D. - ref:
3b/128, the son of George Henry & Alice Mallett (nee Smith).

His parents were married at Winslow R.D., Buckinghamshire - during the
December quarter 1888 - ref: 3a/1017.

1901 Census - Isham, Near Kettering, Northamptonshire.   Son - aged 7 -
born: Mears Ashby, Northamptonshire.   His father was aged: 39 and employed
as an Agricultural Labourer and Horse Keeper on Farm.   Both his parents
were born at Great Horwood, Buckinghamshire.  He had 4 brothers and one
sister residing with him. 

1911 Census - Isham, Near Kettering, Northamptonshire.   Son - aged 17 -
occ: Labourer at Cement Works - born: Mears Ashby, Northamptonshire.  His
father was aged: 49 and employed as a Horse Keeper on Farm.   Both his
parents were born at Great Horwood, Buckinghamshire.  He had 4 brothers and
one sister living at this address, plus a 4 month old grand-daughter
(niece).  There was another older brother residing elsewhere.   His parents
had been married for 22 years and produced 7 children, all of whom were
still alive.

Before joining the Army he lived with his parents at Windmill Cottage,
Harrowden Road, Wellingborough.

Fighting in the Battle of Neuve Chappelle, he sustained a bullet wound to
the left shoulder on the 10/03/1915.    4 days later, he was admitted to
the Western Hospital, Whitworth St, Manchester.   He was later transferred
to Altrincham Hospital on the 06/03/1915.   He had every chance of
recovering from his shoulder wound, but had caught Typhoid in the trenches,
pneumonia set in and he died at Altrincham Hospital on the 04/04/1915.  
His death was reported in the Altrincham Guardian dated 9th April 1915.

Buried 08/04/15 - Burial No. 3,233.

He was given a free grave by Altrincham B.C.   Hundreds of people attended
his funeral including the Mayor of Altrincham.

Commemorated on a public headstone in Hale Cem with the names of three
other soldiers, two of whom died after the war in 1923 and 1934.

His younger brother - Geore Henry Mallett was also killed on active
service.   Both brothers are commemorated on the Wellingborough Town War
Memorial.
