Trafford

Born on the 9th March 1887, the birth being registered during the June
quarter 1887 in the Newcastle upon Tyne R.D. - ref: 10b/129., the son of
Frederick Ernest & Elizabeth Trenbath (nee Taylor).  They married in the
Altrincham R.D.

Elizabeth Taylor was the daughter of Samuel & Mary Ann Trenbath.   Samuel
died in 1869.  In 1871 Elizabeth resided with her mother and 6 siblings at
Barrington Road, Altrincham.   Her parents ar buried in St. Mary's P.C.
Churchyard, Bowdon.

1891 Census - No Trace of Frederick or his parents.

1901 Census - 46, Grosvenor Place, Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne,
Northumberland.   Son - aged: 14 - born: Newcastle upon Tyne.   Head of
household - Frederick Ernest Trenbath - Married - aged: 39 - occ:
Commission Agent Drapery (own account).- born: Bowdon, Cheshire.   Also -
Elizabeth Trenbath - Wife - aged: 40 - born: Bowdon, Cheshire.  Plus 1
younger sister and 1 domestic servant.

Northumberland.   Son - aged: 24 - occ: Chartered Accountant - born:
Newcastle upon Tyne.   Head of household - Frederick Ernest Trenbath -

Bowdon, Cheshire.   Also - Elizabeth Trenbath - Wife - aged: 50 - born:
Altrincham, Cheshire.  Plus 1 younger sister and 1 domestic servant.

Served his articles and obtained his letters A C A in 1909 Newcastle upon
Tyne, Northumberland United Kingdom Chartered Accountant Messrs J M Winter
and Sons

WO363 - Enlisted at Duke's Road, London W.1. on the 16th January 1916.  He
was then aged: 28 years 7 months.   Posted to France on the 21st April
1916.

Letter of Condolence: Letter to his parents from his commanding officer
stating that almost from the date he joined the Army, "we who comprised the
section to which he belonged were proud to call him friend. Whilst dreading
to write anything which serves to further concentrate your mind upon your
great loss, yet we would like you to know what a hero your son was. His
self forgetfulness was wonderful. Before and during the attack his one
thought was the safety and well being of the wounded, and it seemed fitting
that as he met his death in this action his end should be a crowning act of
self sacrifice. It was brought to his notice that a badly wounded man was
painfully making his way towards us. Dear old Trenbath, when warned of the
danger of going out from the shell-hole where we were, at once said, "But
we can't leave him there!' and with that went out to dress then man's
wounds. He was splendid, but unfortunately a burst of shrapnel covered both
the wounded man and the would be rescuers.

Commemorated on the private family gravestone in St. Mary's, Bowdon. Grave
Nos. 2119 & 2120.

CWGC - Son of Frederick Ernest and Elizabeth Trenbath, of 18, Leslie
Crescent, Gosforth, Newcastle-on-Tyne.    Flanders M.I. - "All you had you
gave to save mankind, yourself you scorned to save".

Pension Records - Dependent - Mrs. Elizabeth Trenbath (Mother), 18 Leslie
Crescent, Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne.   Elizabeth's name is later
crossed out (died???) and Frederick Ernest Trenbath (father) inserted. 
Elizabeth was awarded a pension of 5/- per week w.e.f. the 31st May 1918.
