Trafford

Born William Bruce Little during the December quarter 1886 in the
Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/174, the son of William & Emma Little (nee
Clarke).   Baptised at St. Anne's P.C. Sale Moor on the 15th January 1890

His father - William Little died in 1889, aged: 39, leaving his widow -
Emma Little to continue the Grocery business on her own.

1891 Census - 162 Northenden Road, Sale.    Son - aged: 4 - born: Sale.   
Head of household - Emma Little - Widow - aged: 36 - occ: Grocer &
Provision Dealer - born: Tarporley, Cheshire.   Plus 5 sisters.

Attended St. Anne's C of E School, Sale.

1901 Census - 152 Northenden Road, Sale.  Son - aged: 14 - occ: Assistant
Grocer - born: Sale.   Head of household - Emma Little - Widow - aged: 46 -
occ: Shopkeeper Grocer - born: Rushton, Cheshire.   Plus 3 sisters and 1
domestic servant.

1911 census - 11 Saville Street, Oxford Road, Chorlton on Medlock,
Manchester.    Servant - aged: 24 - occ: Groom at Veterinary Service -
born: Sale.  This was a one roomed dwelling, probably part of the stable
block ???

His mother - Emma Little, was still at 154 Northenden Road, Sale - a 56
year old Grocer, together with his 21 year old sister - Pattie E.E.
Little.

WO363 - Enlisted at Altrincham as Bruce Little on the 31st August 1914.  
Aged: 27 years, 323 days, he resided at 136 Northenden Road, Sale.   His
employment recorded as a Butcher.   Immediately posted to the 8th Bn,
Cheshire Rgt.  Posted to the 9th Bn on the 15th September 1914, then ito
the 3rd Bn on the 9th June 1915.   Then posted into the 2nd Bn on the 14th
July 1915 before being finally posted into the 1st Bn on the 1st October
1915.   [The Cheshire Rgt suffered huge losses in Belgium during late
1914].  His record shows that he had 1 brother and 5 sisters.   He was
granted leave from the 27th November 1916 to the 7th December 1917.

Admitted to 4 Stationary Hospital, St. Omer, France for dental caries.  
Discharged on the 13th December 1915.

Death reported in the 01/06/1917 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.

Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1918.
