Born on the 22nd March 1894 at Grange Rd, Bowdon, the birth registered during the June quarter 1894 in the Altrincham R.D. 1894 - ref: 8a/172. 1901 Census - York Road, Bowdon. Son - aged: 7 - born: Bowdon. Head of household - Arthur Pimlott - Married - aged: 41 - occ: Market Gardener - born: Bowdon. Also - Ellen Pimlott - Wife - aged: 41 - born: Pickmere, Cheshire. Plus 1 younger brother. 1911 Census - Langham Road, Bowdon. Son - aged: 17 - occ: Greengrocers Assistant - born: Bowdon. Head of household - Arthur Pimlott - Married - aged: 51 - occ: Fruiter & Market Gardener - born: Bowdon. Also - Ellen Pimlott - Wife - aged: 51 - born: Pickmere, Cheshire. Plus 3 younger siblings, an aunt and a visitor. He planned on becoming a nurseryman, but joined the Cheshire Yeomanry on the 2nd November 1914 and later transferred to the Machine Gun Corps. He was first stationed at Chester and then at Morpeth. Went with the Cheshire Yeomanry to France, then to the Middle East, then Africa. He was in the campaign when Palestine was captured from the Turks. Served under Allenby and de-mobbed on the 23rd March 1919. Death reported in the 11/04/1919 edition of the Altricham Guardian, which states that he was serving in the 18th Machine Gun Corps - 22nd Mounted Brigade. He had only just returned from 18 months service in Egypt, when (presumably) he contracted Flu and died of Septic Pneumonia. His family refused a military funeral. Buried on 09/04/1919 - Burial No. 30/1667. M.I. - "On returning home from Egypt, where he served in the Great War". His father - Arthur died 24/12/1926 aged 67 years and his mother - Ellen died 26/07/1954 aged 94 years. |
