Born during the September quarter 1888 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/174, the son of Robert & Mary Clough (nee Williamson). 1891 Census - 2 New Street, Altrincham. Son - aged: 2 - born: Altrincham. Head of household - Robert Clough - Married - aged: 46 - occ: Shoe Maker - born: Altricham. Also - Mary Clough - Wife - aged: 43 - born: Salford. Plus 7 elder siblings. 1901 Census - 16 Stamford Road, Meadow Bank, Altrincham. Son - aged: 12 - occ: Errand Boy - born: Altrincham. Head of household - Robert Clough - Married - aged: 55 - occ: Shoe Maker - born: Altricham. Also - Mary Clough - Wife - aged: 52 - born: Salford. Plus 5 elder siblings. 1911 Census - 28 Grosvenor Road, Altrincham. Son - aged: 22 - occ: Upholsterer - born: Altrincham. WO 339/81378 - Enlisted in the Royal Scots in 1914 - he was wounded in 1915 - commissioned on the 26th May 1917 - Gazetted 6th June 1917. Acting Cheif Section Officer to his Company since returning to the front. Admitted to hospital on the 21st March 1918 suffering from shell gas poisoning and died six days later. SDGW states that he was a Second Lieutenant with the 65th Bn. Mentioned in the 02/01/42 edition of the local newspaper - re: one of his nephews? Death reported in the 02/04/1918 edition of the Altrincham Guardian. Also the 05/04/1918 edition. Left a widow and one child who is variously listed as living at The Cedars, Grosvenor Rd, Altrincham and at The Grove, Brooklands, Sale.
