Grandson of William Worthington of Birtles Farm, Mobberley.

Attended Seamons Moss School, Dunham Massey.  Employed by Mr. Alfred
Simpson, Iron & Steel Merchants, Whitworth St, Manchester.  Teacher at the
Downs Congregational Church Sunday School.  Member of the Altrincham
Wesleyan Cricket Club.

Death reported in the 11/07/1916 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.
Gazetted - London Gazette 19th February 1917 - page 1759.

Reported in the 24/08/1917 edition of the Altrincham Guardian that his
father had received William's Military Medal on Wednesday 22nd August
1917.

Commemorated on the private family gravestone in St. Mary's, Bowdon. Grave
No. 4129.  M.I. - "A loved one sleeping".

No M.I. on his actual headstone in France.

His father, Thomas died 31/03/1924 aged 61 and his mother, Elizabeth died
06/06/1893 aged 27 years.

One of the sad tregedies of war - the 21/12/1917 edtition of the local
newspaper reported that his father was facing the court because after the
loss of his only son, he had tried to take his own life by cutting his
throat.
