Born at Gracemount, Altrincham on 2nd January 1890, the birth being
registered during the March quarter 1890 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref:
8a/175, the son of Thomas William & Euphemia Margaret Killick (nee Myrtle).
  Baptised at St. John's P.C. on the 1st March 1890.

born: Altrincham.    Head of household - Thomas W. Killick - Married -
aged: 42 - occ: East India Merchant (Cheshire J.P. & Co. Cllr)   Born:
Hove, Sussex   Also - Euphemia M. Killick - Wife - aged: 34 - born: Java,
East Indies (British Subject).  Plus 6 siblings including his elder brother
- Richard Killick who was also killed during WW1.  Plus 6 domestic
servants.

1901 Census - "Townfield House", Townfield, Altrincham.   Son - aged: 11 -
born: Altrincham.   Head of household - Thomas W. Killick - Married - aged:
52 - occ: East India Merchant - born: Hove, Sussex   Also - Euphemia M.
Killick - Wife - aged: 44 - born: Java, East Indies (British Subject). 
Plus 6 siblings including his elder brother - Richard Killick who was also
killed during WW1.  Plus 7 domestic servants.

Engineering Student - born: Altrincham.   Head of household - Thomas W.
Killick - Married - aged: 62 - occ: Cotton Goods Shipping Merchant - born:
Hove, Sussex   Also - Euphemia M. Killick - Wife - aged: 54 - born: Java,
East Indies (British Subject).  Plus 5 siblings - the only one missing was
his elder brother Richard, who was also killed during WW1  There were now
only 4 domestic servants employed.

Educated at Dunchurch Hall & Repton Schools.    Gained a  B.Sc. (Hons)
Manchester University.   Went to Calcutta as an Assistant  to Messrs. Burn
& Co,  Engineers.

Formerly a Trooper with the Calcutta Light Horse.   SDGW states:- Formerly
6207 - 10th Bn Middlesex Rgt.

St. Pancras (London) Bn.

Arrived in France on the 1st September 1916 and served in 3 Corps - 42nd
Division.

Wounded near Albert, Somme, on the 30th September, died in a Field Hospital
at Dernacourt 3 days later.    Death reported in the 10/10/1916 edition of
the Altrincham Guardian.

M.I. - "B.Sc. Manchester University.  Trooper Calcutta Light Horse".

CWGC - Son of Thomas William & Euphemia Margaret Killick of Southfield,
Bowdon, Cheshire.  Born at Altrincham.  B.Sc. Manchester University.

His father was a member of the Manchester Reform Club on King Street,
Manchester.   So both John Raymond and his brother Richard are commemorated
on this memorial as a "Son of Member".

Also commemorated on a private memorial plaque in St. Mary's, Bowdon.   
Inscribed: "Be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee a crown of
life".

Also commemorated on the Repton School War Memorial

His brother Richard also died on active service.     It is said that he
sailed from India in 1916 so that he could enlist to avenge the death of
his brother - Richard.

Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1917.

His father was a member of the Manchester Reform Club, 81 King Street,
Manchester.
