Born during the September quarter 1894 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref:
8a/177, the only son of John & Hannah Ditchfield (nee Evans - nee Leigh). 
Hannah Ditchfield was born Hannah Leigh in 1856 and married Edward Evans a
cab driver c1877.  Edward Evans died in 1884 leaving Hannah a widow with
four children.   In 1891, Hannah Evans and her four children - (aged, 13
down to 8) were residing at 1 Victoria Street, Altrincham.  Hannah then
married John Ditchfield at Altrincham in 1894.   John died the following
year, aged: 39, leaving Hannah a widow for the second time.

1901 Census - 32 Victoria Street, Altrincham.   Son - aged: 7 - born:
Altrincham.    Head of household - Hannah Ditchfield - Widowed - aged: 45 -
born: Northwich, Cheshire.    Plus 2 elder half brothers from Hannah's
previous marriage.

1911 Census - 32 Victoria Street, Altrincham.   Son - aged: 16 - occ:
Painter - born: Altrincham.   Head of household - Hannah Ditchfield -
Widowed - aged: 55 - occ: Church Caretaker - born: Northwich, Cheshire.  
Plus 2 elder half brothers from Hannah's previous marriage. 

Attended St. George's C of Eng School.   Employed by Mr. R.A. Cumming of
Stockport Rd, Timperley.

Enlisted in September 1915 and posted abroad in February 1916.  MIC -
states that he was only awarded the BWM & the VM - no other details.

The "Battle of the Ancre" (River Ancre), was taking place from the 13th to
the 18th November 1916.

Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1918.
