Trafford

Born at Rostherne during the June quarter 1875 in the Altrincham R.D. -
ref: 8a/203, the youngest son of James & Ann Drinkwater (nee Royle).

His father - James Drinkwater died just before Peter was born during the
March quarter 1875.

1881 Census - Camp Green, Rostherne.     Grandson - aged: 6 - Scholar -
born: Rostherne.   His paternal grandmother was the head of the household
and his mother - Ann Drinkwater - Widow - aged: 38 - occ: Charwoman - born:
Hulme, was listed as Daughter-in-Law.    Plus 3 elder siblings.

Attended Rostherne School.

1891 Census - Camp Green, Rostherne Village, Rostherne.    Son - aged: 16 -
occ: Agricultural Labourer - born: Rostherne.   Head of household - Ann
Drinkwater - Widow - aged: 48 - occ: Baker - born: Manchester.  Plus his
elder sister.

Married Lizzie Howard at the St. John the Evangelist Church, Altrincham on
the 9th April during the June quarter 1898 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref:
8a/285.

1901 Census - 47 Bold Street, Altrincham.   Head - Married - aged: 26 -
occ: Insurance Agent - born: Rostherne.    Also - Lizzie Drinkwater - aged:
26 - born: Newton Heath, Manchester.   Plus their son - Harold Winstanley
Drinkwater - aged: 1 - born: Altrincham.

1911 Census - 27 Thompson Street, Newton Heath, Manchester.    Head -
Married - aged: 36 - occ: Coal Miner Dataller (a person employed in a mine
by the day) - born: Rostherne.   Also - Lizzie Drinkwater - Wife - aged: 36
- born: Manchester.   Plus their son - Harold Winstanley Drinkwater - aged:
11 - Scholar - born: Altrincham.

Member of the Rostherne Church Choir.    By 1914 he was employed as an
Ostler at the Kilton Hotel, (Kilton Inn), Hoo Green and resided in New York
Cottage, Hoo Green.

Enlisted at Knutsford in December 1914 and drafted to the front in July
1916.

Taken ill on the 11th November 1917 and was, for a time, in hospital
abroad.   He was invalided home, but died of Phthisis (T.B.) at Sea, on
board H.M.S. "Glenart Castle". 

His death was reported in the 22/02/1918 edition of the Altrincham
Guardian.

His remains were brought home and he was buried on 11/02/18 - Burial No.
3,813.    CWGC Headstone.    M.I. - "His duty nobly done".

Left a widow and one son - Private Harold Winstanley. Drinkwater serving
with the Durham Light Infantry and who was himself in hosptial at
Sunderland.

He qualified for two war medals - the BWM & the VM..
