Born during the March quarter 1889 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/184, the eldest son of Harry & Louisa Wilkinson (nee Goodness). Birth registered simply a Harry Wilkinson - no mention of "Goodness". 1901 Census - 13 Ashfield Road, Hale. Son - aged: 8 - born: Altrincham. Head of household - Harry Wilkinson - Married - aged: 30 - occ: Plasterer - born: Altrincham. Also Louisa Wilkinson - Wife - aged: 37 - born: Manchester. Plus 1 younger brother and 1 Boarder 1911 Census - 13 Ashfield Road, Hale. Son - aged: 18 - occ; Grocer's Apprentice - born: Altrincham. Head of household - Harry Wilkinson - Married - aged: 40 - occ: Plasterer - born: Altrincham. Also Louisa Wilkinson - Wife - aged: 47 - born: Manchester. Plus 1 younger brother and 1 Boarder. Attended the New St Wesleyan School under Mr. C.B. Winn who was, by the time of his death, the head teacher of Stamford Park School. Employed by Burgons Ltd, Railway St, Altrincham since he was 15 years of age. For many years he was a member of the Altrincham Brotherhood and P.S.E. Societies. Enlisted on the 4th September 1914 and drafted to the front in September 1915 arriving at the front during the Battle of Loos. He spent 4½ months on the Battle of the Somme in 1916, then Vimy Ridge, then Messines Ridge. He was gassed in 1917 and wounded by shrapnel in March 1918. Death reported in the 15/11/1918 edition of the Altrincham Guardian. SDGW - states that he was with the 4th Bn [1] Cheshire Rgt. Listed simply as George (Hale) on the Roll of Honour.
