Born during the June quarter 1897 in the Barton upon Irwell R.D. - ref:
8c/686, the only child of Herbert & Harriet Alexander Lindley (nee
Cuffley).

1901 Census - Dumplington Hall, Redclyffe Road, Davyhulme.    Son - aged: 3
- born: Barton.   Head of household - Herbert Lindley - Married - aged: 46
- occ: Mechanical Engineer (Manager) - born: Derby, Derbyshire.    Also -
Harriet A. Lindley - Wife - aged: 36 - born: Altrincham.   Plus 2
servants.

1911 Census - Peartree Cottage, Oldfield Lane, Dunham Massey.   Son - aged:
13 - born: Barton upon Irwell.    Head of household - Herbert Lindley -
Married - aged: 56 - occ: Mechanical Engineering - born: Derby, Derbyshire.
   Also - Harriet Alexandra Lindley - Wife - aged: 47 - born: Altrincham.  
Plus 2 servants.

His parents were formerly of Altrincham.

Educated at Stancliffe, Lawrence House and Repton Schools.    Captain of
the Repton School's fives.    Served for 4 years in the  OTC.    On leaving
School, he joined the Inns of Court OTC in August 1915.

Commissioned 2nd Lt. in the RFA and drafted to the front on the 22nd May
1916.  Served in the 5th South Midland Brigade.

After 6 months service with his RFA Battery he was attached to  "V" No.2
Heavy Trench Mortar Battery. Heavy Trench Mortar Section.   He was struck
in the head by a shell splinter and died soon after in the 13th Field
Ambulance.

Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1918, which states
that he was formerly of Altrincham.
