1914.

Intended a career in the Indian Civil Service.

He joined the University's OTC and was commissioned in July 1916.

He was taking a working party up to the front line by train, when a shell
hit his waggon - killed by shrapnel in his skull.

Death reported in the 19/10/1917 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.

Listed simply as Sydney John Davie (no 's') on the Roll of Honour.

Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1918.
