Trafford

Born at Exchange Street, Cheetham, Mancheter on the 12th April 1892, during
the June quarter 1892 in the Prestwich R.D. - ref: 8d/409, the second son
of Buckley & Anna Maria Brooks (nee Causer).

1901 Census - Merton House, Fernbrook Road, Dwygyfylchi, Conway,
Carnarvonshire.  Pupil - aged: 8 - Scholar - born: Manchester.
His parents were now residing at Temple Lodge, Cheetham Hill Road, North
Manchester, along with his 3 younger sisters and 3 domestic servants.

1911 Census - No Trace.
His parents and his four elder siblings were now residing at the Manor
House, Hale, Cheshire.

Attended the Merton House School, Penmaenmawr and Dean Close, Cheltenham.

Member of the Ringway Golf Club. Both he and his father were connected to
the Holts Derby Brewery, Manchester.

Enlisted in October 1914.  Trained at Southport. Drafted to Egypt in March
1915 and subsequently Gallipoli.

WO 374 states:- His attestation papers are missing from his file, in fact
there are only six documents left in the file.    He applied for a
commission on the 3rd September 1914.    He was 5 feet 11 inches in height
and his occupation was - Brewer.   He embarked at Alexandria for the
Dardenelles on the 3rd May 1915.     Form No. 107 - dealing with his
effects, lists his family as:- father Buckley Brooks, aged: 49 - residing:
Manor House, Hale Barns, Cheshire.  Brother - Harold Buckley Brooks, aged:
14.   Sister - Leonore Brooks, aged: 23.   A note states that he also left
a mother, and two sisters, but they were not beneficiaries under his will
and are not detailed.   No mention of his other brother - Archibald Buckley
Brooks who was serving in the same Regiment and who was killed in 1917.

Killed at Krithia, Gallipoli.  His brother was killed during the third
Battle of Ypres.

Death reported in the 15/06/1915 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.

Listed as a Lieutenant on the Hale & Hale Barns Cenotaph.

Commemorated on a private family memorial stored in All Saints Church, Hale
Barns, removed from Ringway Church when it closed.

Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1916.
