Born during the March quarter 1885 in the Salford R.D. - ref: 8d/64, the
son of John Herbert & Alice Harrison (nee Frean).

1891 Census - Ashley Road, Hale.  Son - aged: 8 - born: Salford. Head of
household - John H. Harrison - Married - aged: 39 - occ: Cotton
Manufacturer - born: Heywood, Lancashire.  Also - Alice Harrison - Wife -
aged: 35 - born: Plymouth, Devon. Plus 4 elder siblings, a Governess and 2
Domestic Servants.

1911 Census - St. Arnolds, Broad Oak Park, Worsley, Lancashire.  Son -
aged: 26 - occ: Cotton Piece Goods Merchant - born: Salford.  Head of
household - John Herbert Harrison - Married - aged: 57 - occ: Cotton Piece
Goods Merchant - born: Heywood, Lancashire.  Also - Alice Harrison - Wife -
aged: 55 - born: Plymouth, Devon.   Plus 2 Domestic Servants.

Educated at Bellfield House, Bowdon.   Bowdon College and Manchester
Grammar School.     Obtained a degree of Master of Commerce at the Victoria
University, Manchester.      Secretary of the Literary Society.    
Attended Hale Congregational Church.  The Bowdon College records state that
he entered the College in September 1896, aged: 11 and that his father's
occupation was - Manufacturer.  He left the College in  April 1898.

MIC - states that he enlisted into the 20th Bn Royal Fusiliers - recorded
as a Corporal No. 4923.   He was drafted to France on the 14th November
1915 and commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Lincolnshire Rgt on the
30th April 1916.

Enlisted as a Private in the Public Schools Bn in November 1914.   After 6
months at the front he was given a commission (2nd Lt) in May 1916.  Later
transferred to the DLI.

The 12th Bn Durham Light Infantry served in the 23rd Division, 68th
Brigade. On the 17th July 1916 the 12th Bn were attacking Poziéres
Village.  At about 20.00 hrs, following an artillery and mortar barrage
they attacked the German trenches defending the south of Poziéres.  The
Durhams were surprised by the the heavy machine gun fire - it was obvious
that the barrage had not been successful.  The men went to ground and once
it was realised that no further progress could be made, they were recalled.
 Leonard was lost during this engagement.

Death reported in the 28/07/1916 edition of the Altrincham Guardian. He was
John & Alice's only surviving son.

Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1917.

His father was a member of the Manchester Reform Club, 81 King Street,
Manchester.
