Took off from RAF Kirmington at 23.59 hrs for a bombing raid on Versailles, France. Flying with 166 Sqn in a Lancaster Mk.I they were shot down by a German night-fighter and crashed near St.-Cyr-l'Ecole (yvelines). The entire crew of seven who were all killed, were posthumously awarded a DFM. Although not unique, it is most unusual to find an entire crew so honoured. |
