Born during the March quarter 1890 in the Barton on Irwell R.D. - ref: 8c/695. His RAF records state that he was born on the 6th April 1888 ??? 1891 Census - Hawthorn House, Edge Lane, Stretford. Son - aged: 2 - born: Stretford. Although his siblings were listed - his parents were not??? 1901 Census - The Ryleys School, Alderley Edge. Pupil - aged: 11 - Scholar - born: Stretford. Attended Cheltenham College 1904 - 1909. An ardent motorist. Married Constance Speakman Faulkner during the June quarter 1912 in the Barton on Irwell R.D. - ref: 8c/1225. Enlisted in the Army Service Corps where he reached the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Served in 103 Sqn until struck off strength on the 4th June 1918 on his admission to 39 General Hospital, Havre. Discharged on the 24th July 1917 and joined 98 Sqn. His Chaplain explains that he had been on a bombing raid onto the German lines, some 40 miles to Bapaume and was returning when a German Ack Ack shell hit his aircraft and he had to descend towards the British lines. He managed to get as far as a village where there was an aerodrome visible. Unfortunately, he could not effect a successful landing and crashed near to a railway line. His observer survived with minor injuries. His body was taken to a Casualty Clearing Station and buried nearby. M.I. - "At rest". The local newspaper states that his widow and three children were living at Beechlands, Timperley. His RAF record also states Beechlands. Listed as a Captain on the Christchurch P.C.
