Born during the June quarter 1896 in the Barton upon Irwell R.D. - ref:
8c/694, the son of Charles & Fanny Summers.(nee Ellis).

1901 Census - 27 Clifford Street, Stretford.   Son - aged: 5 - born:
Stretford.   Head of household - Charles Summers - Married - aged: 39 -
occ: Warehouseman (Yarns) - born: Mobberley, Cheshire.   Also - Fanny
Summers - Wife - aged: 41 - born: Manchester.     Plus 5 siblings.

1911 Census - 8 Meadow Street, Moss Side, Manchester.    Son - age: 15 -
occ: Office Clerk (Insurance) - born: Stretford.  Head of household -
Charles Summers - Married - aged: 48 - occ: Calico Printer's Warehouseman -
born: Ashley, Cheshire.   Also - Fanny Summers - Wife - aged: 51 - born:
Manchester.     Plus 5 siblings and 1 cousin.

WO363 - Enlisted into the 23rd Bn. Manchester Rgt Service No. 22486, on the
2nd November 1914 - residence: 8 Meadow Street, Moss Side - aged: 19 years
8 months - occ: Printer.   He was 5 feet 1 inch in height - weighed 105lb -
max chest expansion 34 1/2 inches and in good physical shape.

Whilst stationed at Morecambe he on the 24th March 1915 he was disciplined
for not complying with an order and insolence to an N.C.O. and was given
168 hrs. Field Punishment No.2.       Still at Morecambe he was disciplined
for overstaying his pass from 10 pm on the 23rd until 11.30 pm on the 24th
May 1915.   For that offence he was given 10 days C.B. (confined to
barracks) and forfeited two day's pay.

Whilst stationed at Masham he overstayed his pass again from 1.0 pm until
9.0 pm on the 16th August 1915 - Just Admonished this time and forfeited
one day's pay.    Whilst at Salisbury he overstayed his pass again from 2.0
am on the 3rd January 1916 until 7.0 pm on the 4th.   He was given 5 day's
C.B. and forfeited two day's pay.

Transferred into the 1/5th Bn. West Riding Rgt on the 16th October 1917.  
Posted to the 1/7th Bn. (ND).

His mother was sent his personal effects i.e. Letters; photos; religious
book; cigarette case; metal watch (broken) in case; 2 wallets; cap badge;
cards.

His uncle - Thurston Summers died in 1916 whilst serving with the 3rd Bn.
Welsh Rgt.
