son of William & Bertha Ann Jane Armstrong (nee Bridge).

1901 Census - 34 Nansen Street, Salford.   Son - aged: 5 - born: Salford.  
Head of household - William Armstrong - Married - aged: 43 - occ: Joiner -
born: Salford.   Also - Bertha A. Armstrong - Wife - aged: 35 - born:
Manchester.   Plus 4 siblings (including samuel who was also killed) and 3
boarders.

1911 Census - 8 Lacy Street, Old Trafford.   Son - aged: 15 - occ: Junior

Employed by the C.E.A., Manchester (Electrical Dept).   His eldest brother
- William Armstrong was a Company Sergeant Major in the Royal Engineers.

Both the SDGW & the CWGC state that he was a Sapper - The Cenotaph and his
family grave state that he was a Lance Corporal, as does the Royal
Engineers Memorial and the local newspaper report.

Death reported in the 17/07/1917 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.

Commemorated on the private family gravestone in Stretford Cem.   His
father William died 12/03/1915 aged 67 and his mother Bertha Ann Jane died
25/01/1933 aged 65.

His youngest brother Private Samuel Armstrong was also killed on active
service.
