Born during the March quarter 1893 in the Rochdale R.D. - ref: 8e/7, the
second son of William & Ann Crompton (nee Greaves).   Registered as WILFRID
Crompton.

1901 Census - 30 Kershaw Street, Bury, Lancashire.   Son - (listed as
WILFRED) aged: 8 - born: Rochdale, Lancashire.   Head of household -
William Crompton - Married - aged: 35 - occ: House Painter - born:
Edenfield, Lancashire.   Also - Ann Crompton - Wife - aged: 33 - born:
Ramsbottom.   Plus 3 brothers (Frank 10 - Tim 6 - Fred 3) and his paternal
grandmother.

1911 Census - 112 King Street, Stretford.    Son - Listed as WILFRID) -
aged: 18 - occ: Law Clerk - born: Rochdale.   Head of household - William
Crompton - Married - aged: 45 - occ: Insurance Agent - born: Edenfield,
Lancashire.   Also - Ann Crompton - Wife - aged: 43 - born: Ramsbottom.  
Plus 3 brothers (Frank 20 - Tom 16 - Fred 14) and 1 sister (Emmeline 10). 

Employed by Messrs. Jellicose, Deham & Jackson, Solicitors at Manchester.

The 2nd son to be killed in action.   The 3rd & 4th sons were also on
active service.  Death reported in the 05/10/1917 edition of the Altrincham
Guardian.

Prior to the 1st W.W. he was one of the youngest sergeants in the Cheshire
Territorials.   He continued his service at Gallipoli and France.

Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1918.
