Born during the March quarter 1885 in the Bishop's Stortford R.D. - ref:
3a/428, the son of Richard & Jane Ebdale.

1891 Census - Coach House Rooms Over, Elsenham Road, Stansted Mountfitchet,
Bishop Stortford, Hertfordshire.   Son - aged: 6 - born: Stanstead.  Head
of household - Richard Ebdale - Married - aged: 40 - occ: Coachman - born:
Deepdale, Norfolk.   Also Jane Ebdale - Wife - aged: 36 - born: Harlow,
Essex.  Plus 1 younger brother.

1901 Census - The Cottage Lawn Field, Eccles New Road, Pendleton, Salford. 
 Son - aged: 16 - Railway Clerk - born: Stanstead, Essex.  Head of
household - Richard Ebdale - Married - aged: 47 - occ: Coachman - born:
Brancaster, Norfolk.   Also Jane Ebdale - Wife - aged: 46 - born: Harlow,
Essex.  Plus 2 brothers.

household - Richard Ebdale - Married - aged: 60 - occ: Coachman - born:
Deepdale, Norfolk.   Also Jane Ebdale - Wife - aged: 56 - born: Harlow,
Essex.  Plus 2 brothers.

WO363 - He attested at Manchester on the 3rd December 1915.   He was born
at Stanstead, Essex, but his address was now given as "Lawnfield Cottage",
Pendleton.   He was aged: 30 years, 11 months and employed as a Railway
Clerk with the L.& Y Railway Co.  He was not married.   He was 5 feet 8
inches in height, he had a fresh complexion, hazel eyes and dark brown
hair.  His chest measured 35 to 38½ inches.    The record was later
altered to include a wife - Lily Yates, whom he married at the Registry
Office, Eccles New Road on the 15th February 1916.  They resided at 10
Mayfield Road, Eccles.

He was mobilised on the 13th March 1916 and posted to No.2 Depot, Royal
Garrison Artillery.  Promoted to Bombardier on the 12th June 1916 and
posted to No. 16 Company.  Posted to No. 30 Company on the 22nd January
1917.  He did not serve overseas.   Posted to No. 1 Siege Battery RGA on
the 1st December 1917.

He died of Influenza and Pneumonia at the Victoria Hospital, Stretford on
the 11th December 1918.    Later in his file it states that his wife had
died five days after he did, and that there are NO children.  There are two
brothers - Reginald Ebdale, a Clerk with the GPO, Brown Street, Manchester
and Louis Ebdale, Clerk with Hunts Bank, Victoria Station.

His wife - Lily Ebdale died of Influenza & Pneumonia at 7 Park Avenue,
Timperley on the 16th December 1918.  Her mother, Ann Yates was present at
her death.  Their daughter - Joycelyn Ebdale died the day before, on the
15th December.  Recorded as a premature birth, she lived only 5 hours - Ann
Yates was also present at her death.

In 1920, his father resided at 108 Abbeville Road, Elm Park, Clapham,
London S.W.  His brothers - Reginald William Ebdale, aged: 41, resided at
39 Noton Street, Brooks's Bar, Manchester. and Louis, aged: 32, resided at
Brae Side, Carr, Diggle, Oldham.

His wife, Lily died just five days after Horace - on the 16th December
1918, aged 25 years and is buried in the same "Yates" family grave. 

Horace is commemorated on the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Memorial at
Victoria Railway Station, Manchester.
