Disembarked from HMS "Derfflinger" onto 'W' beach on 6th May to position west of Krithia on Gallipoli Peninsular. Each man carried 200 rounds of ammunition, 2 days food supply, pick & shovel. Took part in 3rd battle of Krithia on 4th June. CD gives town of residence as Mellor, Stockport. *Cenotaph states that he was a Private, as does the local newspaper reporting Manchester Rgt losses. Local newspaper states that he lived at 229 Kings Road, Old Trafford. Commemorated on the family gravestone in Stretford Cemetery. |
