Born in Ireland??? in 1913, the son of William & Anna Cahill of
Phibsborough, Dublin.

Served as a police constable in Ashton on Mersey, being appointed on the
29th August 1938.

In April 1940, the 1st Bn Irish Guards were deployed to Norway as part of
the 24th Guards Brigade.

Death reported in the 13/09/1940 edition of the Sale & Stretford Guardian.

Lc/Cpl Cahill fought in the Battle for Narvik and was posted missing.   He
had escaped together with two other Guardsmen and tramped for 150 miles in
freezing conditions to Sweden.   Suffering badly from exposure, he was
admitted to hospital where he died.

He is commemorated on the Cheshire Constabulary War Memorial and in their
War Memorial Booklet.
