Born during the March quarter 1918 in the Runcorn R.D. - ref: 8a/268. Joined the Regular Army in 1936. In September 1939, 3 weeks after his 18th birthday, he was sent to France as a machine gunner. Evacuated from Dunkirk (presumably wounded in the process ???) and discharged from the Army in 1942 due to ill health. Unable to work since January 1945, he died at his parents home at 6 Orchard Place, Sale on the 20th October 1945. Buried on the 12th October 1945 unmarked grave. Death reported in the 26/10/1945 edition of the Sale & Stretford Guardian. NOT COMMEMORATED BY THE CWGC. |
