Sgt. Vincent was taking part in the first of 'Bomber' Harris's 1,000 bomber raids, in total 1,047 aircraft took off for this raid on Köln. Flying with 26 O.T.U., they took off at 2305hrs from R.A.F. Graveley in a Wellington Mk.Ic, No. DV740 EU-O, to bomb Köln. They were intercepted and shot down by a night-fighter and crashed at Alem in the Gelderland, 14 km WNW of Oss, Noord Brabant, Holland. The pilot survived and was taken prisoner, but the remaining 4 crew are buried at Uden Cem. Commemorated on he family gravestone in Sale Cemetery - K.949. |
