Educated at Chorlton High School.   Employed by the Prudential Assurance
Co. as an Agent for three years prior to joining the RAF.

Flying with 144 Sqn they took off in a Hampden Mk.1 - No. AD872 PL from RAF
North Luffenham, taking part in a bombing mission to Frankfurt.    The
aircraft crashed at 02.50 hrs, four miles north of Coningsby Airfield,
Lincolnshire, fog being a contributory factor.  The crew of four were all
killed in the crash.

A total of three Wellington and four Hampden bombers were lost on that
raid.

Buried 25/09/1941 - Burial No. 23404.

Grave purchased by Harry Smith.

His brother (Harry Leslie Smith) a Leading ACM also served in the RAF.
