Member of the Sale Wheelers Social Whist Club. Joined the Metro-Vicker's Company as a Production Clerk in September 1940. Joined the RAFVR in November 1941 and later promoted to the rankk of Sergeant. KinA whilst on air operations over enemy territory in April 1944. Flying with 51 Sqn, they took off at 2357hrs on the 27th from R.A.F. Snaith, Yorkshire, in a Halifax Mk.III, No. MZ565 MH-O to attack the railway sheds at Montzen. They were hit by flack and crashed at Kemexhe, 13 km WNW from the centre of Liege. Originally the entire crew of 7 were buried at St-Truiden, but were re-buried at Heverlee Cem after the war had ended. His Aunt was - Mrs. L. Tong (nee Kinder) of 49 Symons Road, Sale. |
