Born during the March quarter 1923 in the Bucklow R.D. - ref: 8a/289, the
elder son of Alexander Wallace & Christina Mary Clark Highet (nee Paton).

He attended Sale High School and Manchester Grammar School and was employed
at the Barclays Bank in Manchester.   A keen member of Sale Amateur
Swimming Club and during training in the south of England he captained his
swimming and water polo teams.   He also played football for Sale Amateurs.


Volunteered for the RAFVR on his 18th birthday in February 1941 and was
sent to Canada for training.

CWGC states that his parents were from Crewe, Cheshire.

His father, who for 4 years, served with the Canadian Infantry during the
1st W.W. was the Registrar for Sale, now the Acting Registrar for
Altrincham with his mother Acting as Registrar for Sale.    He was also the
Chairman of the Sale A.S.C.

Death reported in the 25/06/1943 edition of the Sale & Stretford Guadian.  
Another report in the 10/12/1943 edition of the local newspaper.

From RAF Wickenby - Robert was the pilot of Lancaster ED522 PH-U - for a
bombing mission on Dusseldorf.
