Born 1922, the son of William & Evelyn Harris.

1939 National Registration - Sandy Bank, 105 Church Lane, Ashton upon
Mersey.   William Harris - Married - born on the 9th September 1887 - occ:
Shipping Clerk with the Manchester Ship Canal Company.   Evelyn Harris -
Married - born on the 11th January 1887 - occ: Unpaid Domestic Duties.  
Frank is not listed as he was then serving in the Territorial Army in the
Duke of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry.

Called up in 1939, he transferred to the Royal Air Force.  In 1941 he was
posted to America for pilot training at Pheonix, Arizona.

Now a Sergeant Pilot, in April 1942, he was Posted to North Africa in 6
Sqn, flying Hurricane Mk IID aircraft.  These were fitted with 40 mm cannon
capable of penetrating the armour of any German or Italian Tank.  They
played a full part in the El Alamein offensive exacting a heavy toll on the
enemy's armoured vehicles which earned them the title "The Flying Tin
Openers"

By 1943, he had been promoted to the rank of Flying Sergeant and 6 sqn then
took on the role of "Tank Busters" supporting the French Forces.
